Leading AI research in Flanders
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a system technology with enormous potential to advance people, the economy and the planet. For years, Flanders has been investing in strategic basic AI research. The Flanders AI Research program is a groundbreaking initiative that unites all five universities and six research centres in Flanders. Their collaborative research has a significant and transformative impact on Flanders' health sector, industry, energy sector and society.
Key features of this research include:
- Demand-driven: the program's generic AI methodologies directly address needs from different sectors.
- Pioneering: over 300 researchers from various institutions collaborate in the Flanders AI Research Program, already having published 1,500 papers, many award-winning. The research of the Flanders AI Research Program is internationally recognised. The program is a breeding ground for AI talent, with PhD students consistently entering and leaving the program.
- Impactful: the goal of the Flanders AI Research Program (and the Flanders AI Policy Plan as a whole) is the successful adoption of AI in Flanders. In doing so, the program (and the policy plan) contributes to both a sustainable and prosperous digital future where people's well-being is central, and to innovation and economic growth for Flanders.
AI solutions are showcased through real-life use cases, demonstrating their effectiveness and also inspiring companies to adopt AI and researchers to conduct further AI research.
